Breakfast:The Master of Productivity

You've probably heard of the expression "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" That is most definitely true. Not only is breakfast healthy for your body it is healthy for your brain as well. How does breakfast help your brain? You may ask.

It improves focus and attention span

Hunger while trying to do schoolwork can lead to frustration and lower attention span because your body is yearning for energy. When you eat breakfast it keeps your blood levels constant so you can focus. Think of it like this, breakfast is like fuel and your body is the gas tank. Just like a car needs gas to function you need carbs, which is energy to function. So to ensure that you are alert and focused it is important that you eat a good breakfast every morning.

Less mistakes in schoolwork/Better performance in school

According to the Food Research Center (FRAC), kids who eat a complete breakfast have been shown to make fewer mistakes in math problems and do better on vocabulary tests than those that eat a partial one or don't eat breakfast at all. In turn, kids who eat breakfast will have better grades. Also, kids who eat breakfast have more opportunity to be productive since they have more energy than kids who don't eat breakfast. Speaking from personal experience I've noticed that when I ate breakfast in the morning I could do my work more efficiently with patience and focus. Whereas when I didn't have breakfast in the morning I had less focus and made more minor mistakes.

How to get the most energy in the morning

Experts say that a person should consume 300 to 400 calories for breakfast. You should eat from each of these five food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein foods, and diary (low fat). Examples of whole grains include bagels, whole-grain cereals, whole-grain muffins, and whole-grain waffles. Sources of protein include eggs, lean meat, nuts, and yogurts. Some sources of low-fat dairy are yogurts, fat-free milk, and cottage cheese. The best fruits for breakfast are blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries because they are high in fiber. Spinach is one of the healthiest vegetables which you can put on a bagel with eggs to make a sandwich.
