Michelle's view on Television (Pros v Cons)

According to many different parents across the world, they have said things like “Television is bad for you!” But is that really true? Are we actually 100% sure that is correct? Now, I’m not asking this because I’m a person who likes to watch T.V. but rather because I actually had a long time thinking about this. I grew up thinking that if I watched too much T.V., my eyes would get damaged. But, now that I am older, I found out that isn’t true at all. Well- it would actually depend. Scientists say that watching T.V. doesn’t really damage your eyes but- depending on the day you watch it, it might.

For example, if you are watching some type of video on your mobile device or even watching anything else on a bigger screen late at night- it can cause you to have a hard time sleeping when it really counts. On the other hand, watching television can also help others in certain ways! By this I mean: if you are feeling down, you should watch something that makes you happy, and therefore it would be considered as a form of self-care. You are helping yourself breathe and have a break once in a while by indulging in something that piques your interest. Whenever I am feeling really stressed out and need a break, I just watch my favorite show or start a new show in order to distract myself from the things that overwhelm me.

Then again: It's okay if you don’t like watching T.V. or if you think it's bad. After all, everyone has the right to their own opinion and there are different ways to distract yourself from anything that bothers you. I know that sometimes T.V. is also a literal distraction to everything and can cause others to procrastinate but at the end of the day- it is up to the student or person to choose how they spend their time.
